Ingredients

✅ 2 medium sweet potatoes 🍠

✅ 500g streaky bacon 🥓

✅ Olive oil 🫒

✅ Spices: salt, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper (to taste) 🌶️

✅ Honey, for drizzling 🍯

✅ Substitution: Swap honey for maple syrup for a different sweetness, or use regular potatoes for a less sweet base.

Equipment

✅ Heavy-duty aluminum foil

✅ Toothpicks

✅ Grill or braai

✅ Tongs

✅ Knife and cutting board

Quick Steps

1️⃣ Prep the Sweet Potatoes:
Peel 2 medium sweet potatoes and cut into 3cm x 3cm cubes.

2️⃣ Season and Cook Potatoes:
Place cubes on heavy-duty foil, drizzle with olive oil, and season with salt, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper to taste. Seal foil into a parcel and place on high heat or directly in coals. Cook until softened but still firm, about 15-20 minutes. Remove and let cool slightly.

3️⃣ Wrap with Bacon:
Cut 500g streaky bacon strips in half. Wrap each sweet potato cube with a half-strip of bacon and secure with a toothpick.

4️⃣ Grill the Bites:
Place wrapped cubes directly on the grill or braai grid. Cook, turning occasionally, until bacon is crispy, about 5-7 minutes.

5️⃣ Finish and Serve:
Remove from grill, drizzle with honey, and serve immediately. Bask in the praise from your guests! 😍

Tips

👉 Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat on a grill or in the oven at 180°C/350°F until warmed through.

👉 Serving: Serve with a dipping sauce like ranch or spicy mayo for extra flair.

👉 Substitutions: Use turkey bacon for a leaner option, or add garlic powder to the spice mix for more flavor.

👉 Grill Tip: Keep an eye on the bacon to prevent burning, as the honey drizzle can caramelize quickly.
